State
Supreme Court Justice Anthony J. Carpinello has earned a reputation
for fairness, effectiveness and judicial excellence during his
distinguished public service career. Judge Carpinello’s
capabilities and experience were recognized when he was appointed by
the Governor to serve on the Appellate Division, where he reviews the
work of other judges and decides important cases that affect the
lives of New Yorkers.
Judge
Carpinello brings a level of experience unmatched by any other
candidate in 2008 for State Supreme Court in the Third Judicial
District. As a State Supreme Court Justice, Judge Carpinello has
fairly decided or resolved nearly 12,000 reported cases along with
participating in efforts to keeps our courts modern and responsive to
residents.
As
part of his duties as State Supreme Court Justice, Judge Carpinello
has presided over trials in counties throughout the Third Judicial
District, along with New York City. Serving as judge in these
counties has given Judge Carpinello important experience and
familiarity with the courts and members of the legal profession
serving the district.
Judge
Carpinello has served as a State Supreme Court Justice since 1995,
following a distinguished legal career and decades of public service.
His ability and experience was recognized by his selection as an
associate justice of the Appellate Division Third Department in 1996.
The Appellate Division entertains appeals from all trial level courts
in 28 counties in Upstate New York.
Prior
to becoming a State Supreme Court Justice, Judge Carpinello served in
various public service capacities. He served as Councilman for the
Town of East Greenbush from 1975 to 1981, as Rensselaer County
Legislator from 1982 to 1989 and as East Greenbush Town Justice from
1993 to 1994.
Judge
Carpinello gained important experience in private legal practice with
the firm of Poskanzer, Muffson, Hessberg & Blumberg, now known as
Hiscock & Barclay. As an attorney in private practice, Judge
Carpinello’s areas of expertise included municipal law, local
government, business sales and acquisitions, real estate, general
business and corporate advice, will drafting and estate
administration, commercial loan documentation and general corporate
and banking litigation.
As
judge and attorney, Judge Carpinello’s experience has been
recognized with his service as an instructor at various programs and
training courses for attorneys and hearing officers on subjects
including legal actions involving municipalities, state appellate
practice and business matters. Judge Carpinello was recently
appointed by Chief Judge Judith Kaye as the Chair of the statewide
Continuing Legal Education Board.
Judge
Carpinello received a juris doctorate from Albany Law School of Union
University and a bachelor’s degree from Union University. He and
his wife Sharon reside in East Greenbush and are the parents of two
adult children James and Amy, and grandparents of Jack and Ava.
