Carpinello State Supreme Court Justice For Immediate Release: September 22, 2008 Judge Carpinello Wins Independence Nomination State Supreme Court Justice Anthony Carpinello earned nearly unanimous support at the Independence Party judicial nominating convention held the evening of September 22, winning the party’s nomination in his bid for re-election. Independence Party leaders noted Judge Carpinello’s strong record of judicial and public service and his role in deciding more than 12,000 cases as a member of the State Supreme Court and Appellate Division. Delegates voted by a 14-1 margin to give Judge Carpinello the Independence Party nomination. The Independence Party support follows a week in which Judge Carpinello earned the nomination of the Republican and Conservative parties and came within two votes of winning the Democratic nomination in Albany. A number of prominent Democrats are expected to continue providing bi-partisan support to the judge. “I appreciate that Independence Party delegates have selected me for their nomination, and recognize my legal experience and abilities. Leaders of the Independence Party have supported my re-election for several months and have pledged their continued support,” said Judge Carpinello. Judge Carpinello is the only judge who is now in the race for the Third Judicial District to have been rated qualified by the Independent Judicial Election Qualification Commission for the Third Judicial District. Judicial candidates either receive a rating of “qualified” or “unqualified” after submitting to review by the IJEQC. “I believe my rating from the Independent Judicial Election Qualification Commission is a factor in winning so much bi-partisan support from the various political parties,” said Judge Carpinello. Judge Carpinello has served as a State Supreme Court Justice since 1995, following a distinguished legal career and decades of public service. His ability and experience were recognized by his selection as an associate justice of the Appellate Division Third Department in 1996. The Appellate Division entertains appeals from all trial level courts in 28 counties in Upstate New York. As an Associate Justice of the Court, Judge Carpinello has participated in deciding or resolving over 12,000 reported cases. The Third Judicial District stretches through the Capital Region into the Hudson Valley and includes the counties of Rensselaer, Albany, Columbia, Ulster, Schoharie, Greene and Sullivan. Judge Carpinello has presided over trials in the majority of counties in the Third Judicial District along with New York County.
